Why Hectare to Bigha in Uttar Pradesh is so Confusing
At JameenCalculator.in, we understand that if you are sitting right now holding a copy of your UP Khatauni Bhulekh land record and scratching your head, trust me, you are not alone.
The Uttar Pradesh Revenue Department records all land areas strictly in Hectares. You might see a number like 0.2530 written on your paper. But when you go to sell that land, or when a farmer talks about his fields, no one uses the word Hectare. They only talk about Bigha. To make things even worse, the size of a Bigha in Eastern UP is completely different from Western UP. JameenCalculator.in built this specific Uttar Pradesh calculator to clear up this mess once and for all.
The Big Difference: Pakka Bigha vs. Kacha Bigha
Before you do any math, you need to know which part of Uttar Pradesh your land is in:
- Pakka Bigha or Standard UP Bigha: Used in Eastern and Central UP such as Lucknow, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi. 1 Pakka Bigha is equal to 27,225 Square Feet.
- Kacha Bigha: Used mostly in Western UP districts such as Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Muzaffarnagar. 1 Kacha Bigha is much smaller, exactly equal to 9,075 Square Feet.
The Golden Rule: 1 Pakka Bigha = 3 Kacha Bighas.
How to read your UP Khatauni Area?
Let's say your Bhulekh document shows the area as 0.2530 Hectare. How much Bigha is that actually?
Since we know that 1 Hectare is roughly 3.95 Pakka Bigha, you just multiply the numbers, which means 0.2530 multiplied by 3.95 equals exactly 1 Pakka Bigha. This is a very common plot size in Uttar Pradesh. If you live in Hapur or Bulandshahr, you would multiply that by 3, meaning 0.2530 Hectare is equal to roughly 3 Kacha Bighas.
You don't need to do this manually. Just select Hectare from Khatauni in the 'From' box above, type the exact decimal number from your Khatauni, and select your local Bigha type. The tool handles the exact math for you.
