Here is the truth: An Acre is a standard imperial measurement unit originally from Britain. No matter where you go in the world, 1 Acre will always be exactly 43,560 Square Feet. But Bigha is a traditional Indian unit. Hundreds of years ago, local kings and landlords decided the size of a Bigha based on the length of a bamboo stick called a Laggi. Because the stick length was different in Gujarat compared to Bengal, the Bigha size became different too.
How the Conversion Math Actually Works
If you want to convert Acre to Bigha manually, you only need to know two things:
- We know 1 Acre is 43,560 square feet.
- Find out the square feet value of a Bigha in your state. For example, in Gujarat, 1 Bigha is 17,424 square feet.
- The Formula: Divide 43,560 by your local Bigha square feet. For instance, dividing 43,560 by 17,424 gives you exactly 2.5.
So, 1 Acre in Gujarat is exactly 2.5 Bigha. It is simple math once you know the local baseline.
