Understanding the Difference Between Gaj and Square Feet
At JameenCalculator.in, we often see that when people buy residential plots or build houses in cities like Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, or parts of Rajasthan, the local property dealers always talk in terms of Gaj. They will say things like, we have a great hundred Gaj plot for sale. But when you go to the bank for a home loan or when the architect makes the house map, they ask for the measurement in Square Feet.
This creates a lot of confusion for first time home buyers. Let us clear this up right now. Gaj is simply the Hindi word for Square Yard. They are exactly the same thing. In English, we call it a Square Yard, and in our local language, we call it a Gaj.
The Magic Rule of 9
The relationship between these two units is fixed and very easy to remember. We call it the rule of 9.
- 1 Gaj is equal to exactly 9 Square Feet.
- If you have the value in Gaj and want to know the Square Feet, just multiply the Gaj number by 9. For example, multiplying 100 Gaj by 9 gives you 900 Square Feet.
- If you know the Square Feet and want to find out the Gaj, simply divide your Square Feet number by 9. For instance, dividing 1800 Square Feet by 9 gives you exactly 200 Gaj.
Why Do We Need This Calculator?
While multiplying by 9 is easy for round numbers like hundred or two hundred, things get tricky when you have odd plot sizes. If a property document says the land area is 1250 Square Feet, dividing that by 9 in your head is difficult. It comes out to roughly 138.88 Gaj. That is exactly why we built this simple Square Feet to Gaj converter. You can use it on your mobile phone while standing on the plot to verify what the dealer is telling you.
